Hannah Bumgarner is a graduate student in the Program in Microbiology and Immunology. She received her B.S in Molecular Biology – Biochemistry from the University of Pittsburgh in 2020. As an undergraduate, Hannah worked in Dr. Tim Hand’s lab studying the interaction between the microbiome and the immune response in colorectal cancer. Following undergrad, she spent a year working as a research technician in the Hand lab. In June of 2021, she matriculated into the Pitt-CMU Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) to complete a dual MD/PhD. Following two years of medical school, Hannah joined the lab in July of 2023.

Hannah’s research is focused on understanding how hypermetabolic conditions alter T cell function in the context of adoptive cell transfers for cancer immunotherapies.
